چکیده

Modeling Multi-User Interference (MUI) is crucial in the design of wireless networks. In the case of Impulse Radio (IR)Ultra Wide Band (UWB) networks, most of the adopted models are inspired by the legacy of the reference literature on spread spectrum communications, and do not address specific features for IR systems, where spectrum spreading is basically obtained by the radiation of very short time-limited pulses. The problem of conceiving a specific model for MUI in IR-UWB networks is addressed in this paper. The reference scenario consists of multiple asynchronous users transmitting IR-UWB signals using Pulse Position Modulation (PPM) in combination with Time Hopping (TH) coding. We provide a novel analytical expression for the average BER based on the observation that interference in IR is provoked by collisions occurring between pulses belonging to different transmissions. The proposed method requires specification of a similar set of system parameters as Gaussian-based approaches, but shows improved accuracy in estimating BER. r 2006 Elsevier B.V. Ultra Wide Band Ad-Hoc Sensor Networks: A Multi-Layer Analysis. (Réseaux de capteurs ad-hoc Ultra Wide Band : une analyse multi couche)

and Thesis Overview Abstract The Ultra Wide Band (UWB) technology represents a promising approach allowing the development of new types of wireless Local Area Networks (LANs) and Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs). For twenty years, UWB has been an active field of research and it could be the physical layer for future multiple access wireless networks with very high bit rates, as well as low bit r...

Adaptive narrowband interference mitigation by designing UWB waveforms based on radial basis function neural networks

In order to mitigate the mutual interference between ultra-wideband (UWB) impulse radio and other existing wireless systems, a novel adaptive interference-avoiding UWB pulse, in the context of the appealing cognitive radio, is presented based on the radial basis function neural networks. Theoretical and implementation architecture for UWB pulse generator is addressed. Transmission performance i...

A Novel Multi-User Interference Statistics Estimator for UWB-IR based on Gaussian Mixture Model

Ultra-Wideband Impulse Radio communications have been growing rapidly over the last few years, as a promising technique for high bit-rate and multi-user transmissions over the 3–10 GHz unlicensed spectrum. In literature, multi-user interference is often approximated with a white Gaussian process and embodied in the overall noise term. However, it has been found that, in a typical indoor environ...

A Theoretical Study on the Effects of Timing Jitter on the Performance of Multiple Access Impulse Radio

In February of 2002, the FCC approved the use of ultra-wideband (UWB) technology for commercial use. UWB has since been considered as a solution for the next generation of personal area networks (PANs) and wireless local area networks (WLANs). UWB (or impulse) radio employs short duration pulses to communicate, thereby spreading signal energy very “thinly” from DC to a few gigahertz [1]. The “u...

Frequency Domain Channel Estimation and Detection for Impulse Radio Systems

This paper deals with channel estimation, and detection in ultra wide band (UWB) bi-phase impulse modulated systems. We address the single user and the multiuser scenario assuming a direct sequence spreading code division multiple access (DS-CDMA) scheme. The channel estimation and detection approach is single user based, and operates in the frequency domain. In the presence of multiple access ...
